The Three Deadly Words of Health Care Reform

Dear Fellow Physician,

Dr. Jorgensen, D.O.Thank you for visiting this site prior to the upcoming ACOFP conference.

I'm assuming that you're here either from an insatiable curiosity, or because like me, you're concerned about the future of medicine and health care.

There are significant changes taking place, both nationally and in your home state, and they are far-reaching and ominous. The debate on how to care for your patients is taking place between legislators looking for good spin and profit-minded corporate executives.

The health care bill before Congress aims to slash your Medicare payments, while simultaneously reducing the diagnostic tests you can perform. And all of this is supposed to deliver better health care for more people? At the heart of these "reforms" are the various P4P (Pay for Performance) initiatives that are spreading like wildfire.

Simply put, what these reforms mean for you and me as doctors is more paperwork, lower pay, and ultimately fewer patients if we don't play the game the way they want us to play.

Somehow, you, I, and our patients are left out of the health care reform equation, while certain other industry executives are high-fiving each other.

The answers aren't easy, and as doctors whose primary concern is our patients, we know this to be true...

The solution for us as doctors isn't to fight the inevitable, just as it's not to wait passively until it's too late to do anything for ourselves. What we need to do is quite simply to change direction...

"If you do not change direction, you may end up where you are heading." ~ Lao Tzu

That's why we created our exclusive P6 program. Our goal is to prove that you CAN improve patient outcomes while reducing health care costs... and simultaneously increase our net income.

Crazy? Watch us...

Or better yet - Join Us.

Over the next six to eight months, we'll select 20 doctors or practices. We'll fully implement our P6 program, and as a group we'll lead the way to real health care reform that puts the patient first and maintains our role as a major player in the health of our patients.

We'd tell you more here, but unfortunately, if we did, we'd have to melt your computer.

Come see us November 1-3 in New Orleans. You'll find us in booth 939 (the ACOFP booth).

In the mean time, I hope that the following will whet your appetite for more details.

Here's what's happening...

  • Medicare payments to doctors will likely be cut...
  • "O'Bamacare trying to engineer a 'cheaper' system so that government can afford to buy health care for all" (WSJ 10/6/09)
  • Phase out of bonuses for purely volume based care...
  • Phase in of P4P measurements & what it really means...
  • Annual mandatory review of RVU's with penalty phase...
  • Penalties to bottom 10% of providers per federal metrics...
  • Aging population... this means more chronically ill patients who could drive your rating down...

Which raises certain questions...

  • How will you legally and effectively implement the changes?
  • How will you provide better care for your patients without "violating" restrictions on what you can or can't do?
  • How will you maintain the profitability of your practice in lieu of impending legislation?
  • How will you keep your doors open to take care of your patients and secure your family's future?

Dr. Jorgensen, D.O.See you in New Orleans!
